Filipino Domestic helper Elderly Care Course

The Sunlight Employment Agency is collaborating with the University of Hong Kong to launch a specialized caregiving skills class for elderly Filipino domestic workers with Parkinson's disease in 2025.


The course aims to enhance the professional knowledge and skills of Filipino caregivers, enabling them to care for the elderly more effectively.


It covers a wide range of topics related to elderly care, and the training can be directly applied in their work.


The classes will be taught and demonstrated by instructors with over ten years of relevant experience in elderly care. Details are as follows:


Course Fee: Free of charge

Date: Every Saturday

Time: 14:00 - 17:00

Location: Sunlight Training Room at the Central Flagship Store

Target Audience: Filipino domestic workers

Quota: 15-20 participants

Language of Instruction: English

Duration of Each Class: Three hours

Instructor Team: Composed of speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and social workers.

Note: Participants who complete four consecutive classes will receive a certificate.

Course content (Subject to tutor's schedule, not queued by order)
Speech Therapist 

•Understanding dysphagia and other speech-related issues in Parkinson's disease

• Techniques to assist in speech and swallowing

• Role-play and demonstrations: Assisting older adults during meal times

•Q&A and interactive discussion

Occupational Therapist 

•Understanding the role of occupational therapy in Parkinson's disease

• Techniques to assist with daily activities: feeding, dressing, grooming, etc.

• Environmental modifications for safety and ease of activities

• Role-play and demonstrations: Assisting older adults in daily activities

• Q&A and interactive discussion

Physical Therapist

•Understanding the role of physical therapy in Parkinson's disease

• Techniques to assist with mobility and exercise routines

• Falls prevention and safety measures in the home

• Role-play and demonstrations: Assisting older adults in physical exercises

•Q&A and interactive discussion

Social Worker

•Understanding the psychosocial impact of Parkinson's disease on older adults

• Techniques for providing emotional and social support

• Communicating effectively with older adults with Parkinson's disease

• Role-play and demonstrations: Providing emotional support and facilitating social interactions

•Q&A and interactive discussion
